Today there is a resurgence in the popularity of Memory Boxes or Heirloom Boxes custom crafted to the owner’s specifications.

New to our product line this season are handcrafted Cremation Urns, available in single or double format. Crafted from Black Walnut and Birdseye Maple, the larger urns are accented with Antique brass handles. These simple, beautiful urns can help bring a soothing touch to a difficult time.

Heirloom Box or Memory Box crafted by Allan Rutherford of Riverworks Studio

Allan has created several memory boxes for his grandchildren and for like minded clients. Boxes are small examples of fine joinery featuring details such as dovetails, mitres, splines, box joints, beading, etc. They can be crafted from a wide variety of fine indigenous hardwoods such as oak, maple, ash, birch, black walnut, and cherry and can feature figured wood as a panel in the lid. The choice of hardware for hinges, latches and locks is wide.

CHESTS, like heirloom boxes have a long history: strong boxes for secure storage and transportation of currency, campaign chests used by military officers, sea chests, “shirt waist” chests and blanket boxes. Originals of these are today’s treasured antiques with new uses in today’s homes. New versions of antique chests are often referred to as Collector’s Chests.

Hand made from the finest hardwoods, a custom designed chest can serve well at the foot of the bed, as a fireside seat, a small occasional table or window seat.
